Jean Lemonnier's practice involves a balance between accident and control, representing invisible elements in motion—such as wind, clouds, water, and particles—through abstract, dynamic shapes that invite their own narratives. His work is deeply influenced by art currents, symbols, architecture, and spaces that merge aesthetic ideals with spiritual or social functions, including concepts of the sublime, minimalism, brutalism, dry gardens (枯山水). Thus, he constructs his territory either by selecting exhibition spaces that resonate with his inspirations or by creating an environment within white cubes using various objects and mediums, alongside his main productions. Jean Lemonnier was born in July 1999 in France. Interested in notions of sciences and spirituality like the void or the inner infinity of moments in suspension, Jean aims to create fictions of alternative permanence through different mediums. In 2021, Jean degreed from MOCO. ESBA, fine arts based in Montpellier, France, where he worked on different mediums and techniques like drawing, engraving, video, volume with wood and metal. He moved in 2022 to Japan to continue his studies at Tokyo University of the Arts master Global Arts Practice where he discovered stone carving while improving his skills on video and ink drawings. He graduated in 2024 and plans to stay in Japan to keep producing his artwork.
