Etude is an art term that refers to a sketch or drawing to study a specific subject or technology.
These are the forerunners of Tableau's works, and they are sketches to write down inspiration, or study works for scraping off and sharpening. The title also includes the meaning that it has value as a work as well as etude as a musical term.
