Work Details

The complex appearance of black in this work is revealed by drawing, and while showing the movement of the lines drawn, it also looks like metal, and I think the world captured and reflected on its surface is also an image of this work. The three rhombuses on the right hand of the screen are physical lines created by the cut-out panel, and their expression changes delicately depending on the light and viewing position. The rhombus on the left hand is a drawn line, and traces corrected in that process are left as a figure that can only appear by “drawing.” These lines, which appeared by enlarging the lines of handwritten memos drawn in rough form onto the screen, are depicted as architectural images of shapes stacked vertically while retaining the distortion of the handwriting. The image, which is a combination of physical lines and drawn lines, reflects the consciousness structure of murals drawn in old caves seen in France. It is deeply engraved in my memory as an image of an animal with just a few hand-drawn lines added to the lines created by nature. This complex world contains gaps, and I believe that is the perspective of this work.
