Work Details

This is a work from the "episode" series.

The characters for "LOVE" are created by assembling the Chinese character for "愛," "HOPE" by assembling the Chinese character for "望," "LIKE" by assembling the Chinese character for "好," and "LIFE" by assembling the Chinese character for "生.
Each one is printed by hand, so the color and density of the characters vary.

This is a spin-off version of the “Episode Series” and “
TYPE” series.
・The “TYPE” version is a collection of “individuality” for a certain word, but the “episode” visualizes the process experienced by a certain person.

“TYPE” series
· A work in which one kanji is collected and printed on multiple acrylic plates with the meaning of that kanji into another word (example: love → love, hope → hope).
・Since each one is printed by hand, the color and density of the characters vary.
・One kanji is changing the typeface or expression (color, degree of printing), preferences, thoughts, personality, etc.? It expresses different “individuality” depending on it.
・The meaning of one kanji and words formed by putting them together is universal, but I would like to convey that each person has ten colors of consciousness, and there is a reality that is not bound by one value.
・By layering acrylic plates, depth is created, and a deeper sense of individual consciousness is expressed.

My creative practice centers on the theme of "SHU" (集)—the act of gathering. The act of gathering inherently encompasses diverse thoughts and backgrounds, unfolding through a multitude of processes. In contemporary society, however, the individual trajectories people have built are often overlooked, their significance buried beneath superficial categories and universal generalizations.Through my work, I aim to visualize the hidden values of the individual that exist within the collective—the "singular" presence that remains unassimilated and profound.“TYPE” SeriesIn this series, I reconstruct words with new meanings by aggregating Kanji, the smallest symbolic units of the Japanese language.By hand-printing each character onto multiple layers of acrylic, I introduce intentional fluctuations in density and hue. Here, each individual character symbolizes "individuality"—personalities, thoughts, and temperaments—expressed through variations in typeface and texture. While the resulting word may hold a universal meaning, my work reveals the reality behind it: a vibrant collision of diverse consciousnesses.I use the depth of layered acrylic to manifest these deep-seated layers of individual awareness.“episode” SeriesWhile the “TYPE” series focuses on the individuality residing within universal words, “episode” is an attempt to visualize the "process of accumulation" experienced by a specific individual. My focus lies not just on the resulting word, but on the layers of context and time that led to its formation.“me” SeriesBy aggregating the Kanji for "I" (私) to form an arrow, this series depicts the prologue of a life—the "initial impulse" before a form is fully defined. It expresses the energy of the self, the smallest unit of existence, as it gathers and gains the momentum to move toward the future.
