Work Details
This Urbanism inspired textural abstract work was my response to visiting Tokyo for the first time in 2019. I wanted to express the feelings invoked by the metropolis, where the energy of the city experience is translated into abstract expressive forms, contrasted against the empty space of the paper.

Artist
Lance Kerr
Born 1975 . Based in Westport, New Zealand.
Kerr studied “Visual Communication Design” at Ara Institute Christchurch NZ, graduating in 1998.
His work deals with ideas that reconsiders abstraction,referencing urban environments and liminal spaces working with fluid acrylics on canvas or paper.
He is an internationally recognized contemporary painter.
In 2021 was “Art Edit” magazine (based out of Sydney) artist of the week.
In 2024 ,
a “Circle Arts Foundation” finalist in an international Art award.
He is interested in using art as a medium to explore East-West dialogue, looking at the resonances between eastern philosophy and postmodern deconstruction.
