Work Details
Deep in the woods.
A place of peace known only to them.
A secret story spun in small whispers.
I created this work with the aim of awakening our inner silence and becoming a base for finding peace of mind in this age where countless voices, like the hustle and bustle of the present day and the flood of information, resonate.
The trigger was an event I experienced when climbing Mount Kurama in Kyoto.
While the sound of birds echoed deep in the forest, I had a strange feeling the moment I made eye contact with a deer.
The concept of this work is based on contemporary thought and Laozhuang thought that I came across while thinking to give shape to that feeling.
Modern thought attempts to break away from the concept of binary opposition.
We will dismantle conflicts between good and evil, nature and culture, men and women, and place importance on accepting diversity and ambiguity.
Meanwhile, Laozhuang Thought emphasizes harmony and tranquility with nature, and explains how to live in an unnatural way of life that follows nature's providence.
Inspired by these two ideas, I carved a sculpture of a deer I met in the forest and combined each book, which is a symbol of civilization, with a blank sheet of paper to express the beauty in silence and harmony.
This expresses the pursuit of inner silence and harmony while various stories and ideas intersect.
This work, which was born when I met a wild deer deep in the mountains of Kurama-dera Temple, had a huge impact on my subsequent work.
This is a special work that was such a major turning point.

The theme is “white poetry,” and the serenity and signs before they become words are shaped as a landscape of light and shadow.
