Fantôm

This work, which was created in the wake of my grandfather's death, was a research result of considering land and spirits (dead people).

Memories of many dead people are piled up on any land, and they are used as energy to capture the living. It can be said that we live on the dead. In particular, in land with characteristic topography such as mountains and valleys, the flow of energy can be clearly felt by living people, and the flowing power can be perceived as spirits. I grew up in the mountains, but I often felt the same energy flow in Shibuya, and I associated it with memories of the spirits of the land swirling at the bottom of the valley.

In this work, I'm drawing images of Japanese land connected to my grandfather's death as plants, and I'm trying to depict spirits (dead), which are phenomena that transcend human intelligence by inviting chance during the production process.

In the production process, they imitated events in the natural world so that an accidental phenomenon would occur from the beginning. It was designed so that a phenomenon unintended by the author would occur in the early stages of drawing. Specifically, they waited for the phenomenon to appear by dripping or scattering pigments, and drew according to the image that emerged. The traces that appeared strangely on the surface looked like lumps of rocks, moss, and plants, so I was only good to “shape” them.
