Work Details

As of 2026, this game has built a relationship with this character for about 4 years. Now, the distance from the character in my concept and self-understanding through observation, this is a work where I unexpectedly thought about how far I had seen this character, and dared to disassemble the characters and test from other perspectives. And it's like they're staring at this place and talking about the characters that fall apart and aren't the first to be seen. By choosing an unstable base called gesso as the material for kraft paper, it is a work that makes you feel an absolute distance between the countless wrinkles, as if it were a memory barrier at the end of a blurry one that cannot be surpassed.

I think that daring to wrinkle even more from here on also changes the way it looks and is interesting.

Hajikaku-chan is a character that reflects the discomfort or desire towards my gender; beginning with drawing, I continue to depict my internal conflict through Hajikaku-chan, gaining hints from the distance between myself and the character. In my practice, I pay particular attention to the expression of lines that derives from drawing, and the gradation characteristic to oil paints. My feelings of admiration, desire and helplessness towards gender, became rooted deeply inside of me and began to have a shape without my knowing. These then manifested as a character – this is Hajikaku-chan. In the unstable understanding and familiarity, that Hajikaku-chan is a complete stranger although somewhat resembling of myself, by confronting it, I give shape to the irrepressible feelings that are inside of me.
