⚫ ︎ About the Object series

“I stop and look closely at the scenery I suddenly see while taking a walk. A flower with rusting galvanized iron and mortar walls exposed to rain and wind, decaying petals and new shoots.” The delicate beauty hidden in the “familiar landscape” captivates me for a moment.

I'm staring at myself, and people passing by, strangely glancing at the destination in their gaze. I wanted someone to stop for a moment and see the ephemeral beauty of the things that exist there; if possible, I wanted to look at them together, and I wanted to share them.

This work recreates such everyday scenes through my own filters. I would be happy if a casual landscape would be an opportunity to see that person's everyday life in just a little bit of color.”

Painter/Painter

By using acrylic paint and incorporating mixed colors, accidental expressions, and sensory touches, they are created with an awareness of “paintings that appeal to the senses.” Multiple styles have been developed, such as the “Mind Record” series, which is an attempt to keep fragments of memories flowing through me as they are, the “Object” series, which features rich textures using modeling paste, and the “Fixed Window” series, which depicts windows held by various people under the theme of “human boundaries.” Born in Miyagi. He began presenting as a painter in 2008. Lives and works in Tokyo (currently lives in Tochigi Prefecture). ----- [Statement] When I keep a diary, I write my “feelings” for that day, not the events that happened that day. Therefore, similar words are repeatedly lined up in the diary. “What did you do” and “who were you with” have been omitted, so I will use fragments of words as clues later and move forward little by little with the scenes of the day. It doesn't fulfill its essential role as a diary at all. I write and reread such a “useless diary” in the same way and guess the events of the day. The letters are sometimes strong, sometimes weak, punched, and smudged. Sometimes stars and heart symbols were attached — the feelings that oozed through those lines and shapes slowly made me think back nostalgically. People are multifaceted, and they live with cruelty and compassion, purity and cunning, generosity and narrow-mindedness, and by yardsticks whose scales change. I try to hold on to that beautiful distortion so strongly from time to time,
I'm trying to record “traces of the moment” that shake and don't stay. I began drawing by replacing the feelings that seeped into the swaying letters in my diary with the colors, shapes, and matières of the paint. When the colors mix and begin to resonate beautifully, I feel that something that cannot be conveyed in words is gently conveyed. Shimizu Kayoco
