About the Artwork
This series consists of a large number of drawings produced in 2022. At the time, I was repeatedly experimenting with ways of incorporating the “instability” of human vision into a two-dimensional surface. The series is particularly important to me because it marked the point at which the development of my practice as Binocularism truly began to take shape.
This series of drawings is produced entirely using masking fluid. After each layer of paint dries, I apply masking fluid to cover selected areas, preventing any further paint from adhering to them. As the process continues, the masked areas gradually increase, reducing the surface available for additional paint. Once the entire surface has been occupied, the work comes to an automatic end.
As a result, the completed image contains, in principle, no areas where paint is physically layered on top of itself. In the final stage, the masking fluid is removed. Because the paint resting on top of the masking fluid is lifted away at the same time, the order of the brushstrokes appears reversed from the sequence in which they were originally applied. It is at this moment that the image emerges before the viewer.
Specifications
The artwork itself is sheet-based. It is mounted on a backing board fitted with a hanging cleat for wall installation. A matching wall cleat is also included, allowing the work to be easily displayed using masking tape for positioning.
Protective Storage Case
A custom-made storage case is included for the artwork, making storage and transportation easy. As acrylic paint may occasionally adhere to the lid, please ensure that the included silicone release paper is placed over the surface of the artwork whenever it is stored.
About Framing
Framing is available upon request for an additional fee of JPY 16,500. The frame color will be selected by the artist to best suit the artwork. Please note that if framing is requested, the storage case and hanging cleat will not be included.

Painter
There is a slight discrepancy between what the right and left eyes perceive. People see the world by continuously synthesizing these two fields of vision in the mind. I attempt to reconstruct this perceptual instability through the structure of painting. To render a perception that is constantly in flux is to engage in creating something that cannot be fully completed from the outset. I call this attitude—both in making paintings and in understanding art as it has been practiced—“Binocularism,” and I identify myself with it.
