Work Details
Terracotta relief, “The only thing in the ocean is waves.” The maquettes and drawings for were framed and finished in a single relief.
It's a transparent seagull between “being there” and “not being.”
The three-dimensional part is made of resin, and the drawing is an ocean drawn using a paint called iridescence, which changes color depending on the angle. The frame uses scraps from the time it was framed, and by framing an image that was supposed to be a work with materials that were supposed to be someone's important, it shows the desire to accept the unfinished beauty.
I like the poem “North Sea” by Chuya Nakahara.
The content is that there are not mermaids but only waves, but it's strange that receiving such words makes me realize that I want mermaids to be there, and it makes me feel rather fantastic.
Created in response to this poem, “There are only waves in the ocean.” I secretly drew the tail fin of a mermaid into the terracotta work.
North Sea
What is in the ocean
That's not a mermaid.
What is in the ocean
Those are just waves.
Under the cloudy North Sea sky,
The waves are peeling their teeth here and there,
It's blazing the sky.
I don't know when it will happen.
What is in the ocean
That's not a mermaid.
What is in the ocean
Those are just waves.

Things that are formless but useful are still with me, and sometimes they become small lights, flexible bags, and sturdy shoes, giving me a little strength to face and understand reality.
Terracotta is unglazed clay, and it is in an imperfect state to be called pottery.
Its soft, warm, and dry appearance is very similar to a weathering fantasy.
For me, production is like throwing away memories I can't remember. It is the task of superimposing the present on a someday imaginary landscape and giving it an outline.
