“My Room on the 2nd Floor”

The title of this exhibition “My Room on the 2nd Floor” is an exhibition of works called “Ant Tasaki,” which attempts to dig deep into myself from various aspects. While challenging new forms of expression, I will try to expand the expression of the artist “Tasaki Ant.”

In my artist activities up until now, I have created and presented two-dimensional oil paintings with the feeling of being a newscaster who uses light and shadow as the main motifs, determines themes based on coverage of social issues such as court hearings and wildlife conservation volunteers, and talks so bluntly that there are no discrepancies with the facts.

This time, while continuing with works from the viewpoint of covering such “society,” we will be exhibiting works created around the subjective and personal theme of the internal and external self, that is, “me.”

In my daily life where subjectivity/objectivity are mixed up, I often feel like I am an empty balloon, and I often think that there is no sense of self.

In my relationships with others, I spend my days feeling that words that come out of my own mouth become a phenomenon of sound waves by the time they reach my own ears. It was very difficult for me to perceive the “I” motif, and that's why I felt like a huge black hole that I had to face the most as an artist.

In addition to not usually letting others step in, it is an exhibition that focuses on the cluttered most private part of my room, which I'm not even aware of, and challenges it from various angles.

“The fear of ‘not understanding anything’ makes me terrified, so I want to expose and uncover the ‘you’ standing right in front of me.”
This raw mixture of fear and desire toward genuine, life-sized communication is the root of my creative concept.
In my practice, while continuing to create works that deal with macro perspectives on society and the times, I have also begun to work on pieces that take my own extremely personal experiences and emotions as their motifs.
For example, just as both the time I spend time outside connecting with society and the time I return home to be alone in my room lost in thought are equally indispensable to me, in my creative process I feel like I’m constantly moving back and forth between micro and macro viewpoints. I feel that these different scales have recently begun to coexist naturally within me.
