Artwork Concept

Liberation marks the moment we begin to question what we've been taught and start thinking for ourselves.

We are shaped by unseen patterns – by beliefs and cultural habits practiced for so long they begin to feel like the only truth. This piece explores the tension between the preconditioned self and the part of us that longs to move beyond it.

In every layer, the painting carries a sense of emergence – a moment of releasing inherited bias, and finding the courage to reclaim our ability to think critically when faced with unfamiliar surroundings.

Liberation is not sudden. It is a slow unfolding, a peeling back of false certainty to reveal that not all of life is hard-coded.

Exhibition scenery

From collection "DUALITY: our divided selves"

Auguste Lu invites you to explore her latest Japan-based collection, where each piece explores the dualities of human existence and offers art as a tool for self-improvement.

Inspired by her nomadic journey of self-discovery, each piece reflects the tension and harmony that shape personal growth.
By engaging with these works, you contribute to the celebration of human complexity, enriching the dialogue between art and life .

Production Methods

Acrylics, charcoal, chalk, pigments on canvas

Auguste incorporates generous amounts of water, blending inks and acrylics to guide the natural flow of the composition. As the water slowly evaporates, she anchors the work with layers of chalk and charcoal, grounding the painting in a balance of movement and permanence.

Working predominantly on the ground, her large-scale pieces are shaped by sweeping bodily gestures, transforming the act of painting into a physical performance — where creation itself becomes an event.
