作品のコンセプト・制作意図
”torso”はイタリア語で木の幹を意味する言葉であった。長い時間の中で四肢が欠損した古代彫刻の断片、特に胴体の部分を「木の幹」と呼んだ。古くはミケランジェロが、そして近代においてはロダンが、断片化され抽象性を増した人体のかたちに彫刻の生命を見た。
そして、「トルソ」は現在では「体幹」を意味する言葉として日本に生きる我々にも馴染み深い言葉になっている。
この作品は、その歴史を「言葉」、「素材」の意味において遡ることに主眼が置かれている。日本の彫刻は木の歴史と言っても言い過ぎではない。木の断片でトルソを象り、そうしてできた彫刻を鉢に植えて「木の幹」に戻してみる。

I mainly produce the “Spirit (= Sculptor)” series, which has the concept of “Portrait In Sculpture,” based on photographs of sculptors, and the “Torusô” series, which plants the history of sculpture in ready-made pots.
