作品詳情
This work is part of the art series, “Materialize,” which features hand-drawn marble illustrations, reminiscent of the opulent fresco-filled interiors of ancient Roman palaces, where real marble was a rarity. Fading bamboo shadows are superimposed on these marble depictions to create a visual dialogue between contrasting Eastern and Western cultures and materials.
“An ancient wall, a timeless space”
Acrylic on canvas. Reverse masking technique was used to show multi-layered image of bamboo shadows.

Painter / Mixed-Media Artist
A Tokyo-based painter and mixed media artist of Japanese and Korean heritage. Works explore the balance between realism and abstraction. Drawing from his multicultural background, Kuriki delves into themes of self-identity and self-understanding, continually seeking new ways to express his perspective from his Tokyo studio. Yusuke Kuriki (b 1989) is a Tokyo-based painter and mixed media artist with a half-Korean heritage. Growing up in Tokyo’s international community has profoundly impacted his artistic journey. His work is influenced by the balance of realism and abstraction found in contemporary artists such as Colleen Barry, Ida Yukimasa, and George Rouault. He also draws inspiration from the vibrant narratives and colors of Dean Fox, Salmon Toor, Tomo Campbell, and Emma Webster. From his Tokyo studio, Kuriki explores themes of self-identity and self-understanding, continually seeking new ways to express his perspective.
