Green Coca Cola Bottles on the Yellow Pad (pt.1)

The human eye always applies some kind of definition to the original “reality,” and I think it intuitively organizes and recognizes visual perception based on this. Based on this idea, in this series, I am creating a group of works in which words and sentences are directly written on the screen, using the squares of manuscript paper and the borders of memo paper as symbols of the “framework” called language. It is an attempt to precipitate the feeling that the moment a small word or sentence attached to an abstract motif catches your eye, the motif becomes figurative and takes on an outline. Also, recently, from the hypothesis that the ability to capture the outline of objects is brought about by language ability (= ability to give definition), they have also created works in which the screen structure is based on the relationship between amorphous colors and contours in accordance with the process of verbalizing things. It is difficult to avoid the use of language when understanding amorphous beings that are originally difficult to express in language when they are commonly recognized in human society. However, at the moment when some kind of definition is applied to any entity depending on language, the judgment on whether the definition is correct for that existence is easy to be neglected, and a feeling of trying to look closer to the definition may naturally arise. I am continuing my research and production while thinking about the strong traction that language and outlines have.
