Yoshino Shotaro

Artist

I create and present works on the theme of “Memories of the Land.” The “work that lifts the ground,” which is the main work, encourages people to think again about memories and events that lie dormant in that place by superimposing memories of that place on the strata accumulated there and showing those things that cannot normally be seen. When creating a work, I value local interviews and sort out my memories of that place by listening to various stories.

Yoshino Shotaro was born in 1979 in Tokyo.

They express “memories of the land,” and have presented their works at domestic and international museums, galleries, many alternative venues, and outdoors.

The ground meaning “work that lifts the ground,” which is his masterpiece, is a accumulation of memories, and by gently drawing up and expressing the history accumulated there, it makes us consider the effects on the “place,” the impact on the “humans” involved in it, and the relationship between that place and humans, and shakes the consciousness deep within the heart.
