Morpho Scenery with Morpho Butterfly

我々は風景から物質性を失ってしまう。

風景そのものの構成要素は物質であるにもかかわらず、透明な空気と透明な目のレンズを経て網膜に光が結像する頃には、風景そのものは二次元のイメージになってしまう。立体感のない遠景は、その象徴だ。

物質性と映像性の間にアナログの光学装置を挟み込み、運動を持たせる。物質を伴う運動は我々の身体性を喚起し、物質性を感じさせる。イメージの象徴としての遠景を映像的に変形させるアナログな物質装置は、装置を通じて生ずるイメージとそれが物質である矛盾の間に、イメージと物質を、そして、人為と自然の関係性を描き出している。

We lose materiality from the landscape.

Even though the components of the landscape itself are material, by the time light is formed on the retina through transparent air and transparent eye lenses, the landscape itself becomes a two-dimensional image. The distant landscape, which has no sense of three-dimensionality, is a symbol of this.

An analog optical device is inserted between materiality and visuality to give it motion. The motion with materiality evokes our physicality and makes us feel materiality. The analog material device that transforms the distant scene as a symbol of the image into a visual image depicts the relationship between image and matter, and between artifice and nature, between the image that arises through the device and the contradiction that it is material.
