Gray sunflower

私が絵画を見ている時、描かれたモチーフや空間や色彩の世界に魅了される時もあれば、それら情報の幻影から一瞬醒めて絵画はカンバスに塗ったただの絵の具の塊であると見える時もある。また多くの絵画は壁に依存しているため絵画のみで完結させることができない。本作ではそのような絵画という概念についての考察から、絵画や彫刻という言葉ができるより以前の原始の状態を想像して制作している。

When I’m looking at a painting, sometimes I’m fascinated by the world of motifs, spaces, and colors, and sometimes I wake up from the illusion of that information for a moment and say that the painting is just a lump of paint on the canvas. Also, many paintings depend on the wall and cannot be completed by painting alone. In this work, from consideration of the concept of painting, I imagine the primitive state before the words painting and sculpture were made.

フェイクファーで覆った絵画を天井から吊るし、毛の束を捻りだして、形を作って固め、最後に色の砂をかける。抽象表現主義のアクションとコンバインペイティングの要素を併せ持つ。重力を利用した情念的行為は、明石の絵画に生命を与え、二次元と三次元的の間の物体を出現させる。絵画の様式を超えてレリーフ、彫刻へと変化した内臓や植物のような物体は、明石の内側の密林だけに生息するアニミズム的オブジェクトであろう。

He hangs paintings covered in fake fur from the ceiling, twists strands of the fur to form shapes and solidifies them, then finally covers them with coloured sand. He has both essences of the abstract expressionism action and combine painting. The sentimental action that utilises gravity, brings life to Akashi’s paintings, and conceives objects that are inbetween two and three dimensions. These things like organs or plants turned into reliefs and sculptures, that transcend the format of paintings, are objects of animism that live only inside the dense forests, of Akashi’s inner part.
