TSUGI

日本人は、室町時代から「金継ぎ（Golden Repair）」という修復の手法で、陶磁器の破損部分を金粉で装飾し、それを「景色」と呼んで芸術的な価値を見出してきました。

陶磁器の表面のようにも見える映像は、衛星が捉えた地球の表面です。

地球温暖化によって溶けてしまった北極の氷や山火事によって失われた森林などが、人類の意志によって「金継ぎ」され、ふたたび増えていく様子が希望的に描かれています。

ひび割れた地球をそのままにしない。この美しい景色を次へと継ぎたい。

そんな人類の強い意志と行動が、いま必要なのではないでしょうか。

Since the Muromachi period (1336-1573), Japanese people have been using kintsugi (Golden Repair: kin meaning “gold,” tsugi meaning “connect”), a restoration method that decorates the cracks of ceramics with gold powder, and giving artistic value to such repairs by referring to them as “scenery.”

This footage resembling the surface of ceramics is the surface of the Earth captured by satellites. Areas such as Arctic ice that has melted due to global warming and forests lost due to wildfires are depicted in a hopeful light: being repaired and regenerated with kintsugi by the will of humankind.

Rather than leaving the cracks of the Earth as is, connect them into a splendid scenery for the next generation. Such strong will and activism by humans may be just what the world needs now.
