Architectural highlights POINT

Designed by Tadao Ando, opened in 1980 (reopened 2003). Architect Tadao Ando renovated the existing museum building with a tiled hipped roof that imitates the important cultural property “Saigoji Hondo” in Onomichi, and was renewed in 2003 by the architect Tadao Ando, and a new building was added. The extension part consists of an exhibition room made of beautiful cast concrete, which is a characteristic of ANDO architecture, inserted into the outer wall of a glass screen with eaves (eaves). This is one of Tadao Ando's masterpieces and has also been tested at the “Fort Worth Museum of Contemporary Art” (opened in 2002) in Texas, USA. Furthermore, “blank space” has been given everywhere, such as the extension and the old building, and the gap between the glass screen and the exhibition room. Greenery like a garden is inserted there, and a place like a “hideaway” for visitors is prepared.
