Solitude

2021 Master of Fine Arts in Painting, Hongik University, Seoul, Korea Han Ji min collects the stability of the ordinary and stimulates the unease within. It begins with observing behaviour in both familiar and unfamiliar places – that which goes unnoticed for being mundane, such as the smallest shiver overlooked except to those watching closely. While keeping the perspective of an observer, the mind-set of the artist is introduced. Moments are captured without disrupting the rhythm of the ordinary. Extending the observer’s perspective to the audience. The audience feels the slow movements of the subjects breathing in still environments, and focuses on the smallest details. But the artist does not restrict their observations to others. They realise the subconscious and ordinary within themselves. They take a step back and see within their familiar selves a stranger. Merely observing the everyday lives of our familiar world.
