Work Details
石川県金沢市を拠点に活動する菊谷達史は、近年は日本の近代洋画の作品表現に注目し、それらを現代絵画に転化させることをテーマとして制作活動を行っている。油絵の濃厚なマチエールや独特の沈んだ色使いによる表現は重々しさを感じさせるが、そのモチーフは菊谷の現代的な視点を通して解釈され、再構成されており、どこかポップな印象を与える。そして作品を目前にした私たちは、画面上で同居する対照的な性質に倒錯し、不思議な作品世界へと引き込まれていく。絵画制作を通して、日本におけるかつての「洋画」に光をあてると同時に、独自の魅力的な世界を表出させる菊谷の取り組みを、ぜひこの機会にご覧いただきたい。

1989年北海道生まれ。石川県金沢市にある金沢美術工芸大学で油画を学んだ後、同地を拠点に活動。（日本近代洋画、ビデオゲーム、北海道といった複数のルーツを混色しながら）タブローを中心に制作、現代美術分野で発表。2020年よりアニメーションの制作も開始。
