It is carved using hinoki cypress and colored with mineral pigments. hinoki wood is less likely to crack or warp, and mineral pigments is a material with little risk of discoloration or fading due to deterioration.
Origami is a familiar motif to both children and adults. The abstract shapes of origami are very much in keeping with the Japanese sense of beauty. The process of carefully layering folds to reveal a shape is like that of a Buddhist sculptor who carves a statue of Buddha while praying.
Carving, folding, and praying.
The simple beauty of this process is universal and cannot be undermined by anything.
