Work Details
DONDO―Though it rages fiercely, it is warm. Fire is ever-present in our daily lives. Or, rather, it is a presence far vaster than our small selves—the universe itself. That is why, in Japan, fire has been revered since ancient times. The “Dondo-yaki” festival is likely a remnant of this tradition. I entrust its essence to Urushi lacquer. Urushi, too, possesses a striking individuality, yet it is soft. This is not a matter of duality; it is a single, unwavering form. Without being misled by phrases such as “a people-pleaser”, I wish to stand tall and dignified. As for what I ought to do—I find myself wanting to ask the fire and the Urushi lacquer.
