Work Details
I sometimes find myself becoming skeptical about the existence of things and people. I wonder whether a thing truly exists, and whether what I see before me can really be considered certain. I feel that ordinary scenery only begins to “exist” in this world when I consciously choose to look at it. Scenery that is not consciously observed feels ambiguous, as though it continues to change even now.
I perceive these subjects through “lines” and simplify them. To perceive forms and light that would not originally exist as “lines” is, I believe, a trace of my attempt to give them boundaries with my own hands and make them exist as something “certain.”
For me, the act of drawing itself is also important. I feel that drawing is an act of taking an object into myself and digesting it, visualizing the “memory” of what I saw at that moment, and connecting that memory with its “existence.”
