Work Details

Concept and Intention of the Artwork

This work is inspired by the form of roots. The primary material is kimono garments donated by various people.

In English, “roots” refers not only to the roots of a plant, but also to the invisible connections between people, such as their homeland, ancestry, and history.

I see each kimono as a fragment of someone’s life, carrying traces of their memories and the passage of time. By layering these garments and shaping them into roots, I express the invisible connections between the past and the present, and between one person and another.

By receiving kimono garments from others and giving them a new form, I create new connections between people. The joy that comes from these connections is at the heart of 'Rooted in Joy'.
