Work Details
Series: SILENCE
The process of laminating an opaque material called pastel on top of a small wooden panel. It is an attempt to make a single portrait stand up from the overlap of physical colors, and from the blur and distortion.
The darkness and uneven brushstrokes engraved on the screen describe multi-layered emotional states that are unspeakable, such as inner melancholy, quiet prayer, or confusion, as objective phases of color.
Instead of depicting specific facial expressions, it visualizes the silence (SILENCE) of that moment when emotions such as worry and screaming are “expressed”.

Toshifumi Mori
Centered on "care for people, space, and emotions," I create clay sculptures and spaces guided by a touch sensitive to subtle shifts in body and mind.
Artist Statement
By touching others, I often sense tension or fatigue they may not even notice. Unspoken emotions quietly inhabit both our bodies and spaces.
Guided by this awareness, I work with clay—a humble material long entrusted with human prayers—shaping figures, animals, and familiar scenes into three-dimensional forms.
I move my hands not merely to build shapes, but to gradually loosen what has hardened. Rather than seeking efficiency or "correctness," I gently embrace ambiguous feelings and subtle inner shifts that cannot be simplified into black and white.
I hope my works and spaces offer a place to pause and breathe, easing the tension in someone’s heart and body. With this wish, I create as a quiet prayer for those living in our time.
