Work Details

About the work

Four women ride together in a boat, each passing the time in her own way, napping or eating slices of watermelon. The boat carries a large object concealed beneath a cloth, along with a pile of watermelons. At the stern, one of the women quietly gazes at a watermelon floating on the surface of the river. Juice seeps from the fruit, staining the water red like blood.

By the way, the concealed object appears to be roughly the size of a human body. The watermelon and its crimson juice are arranged as metaphors, subtly hinting at the true nature of what lies beneath the cloth.
