Exhibition Statement
Utopia: An ideal land, a dreamlike world, the pursuit of happiness.
My Utopia: It is a place more dimly lit than bright, more warm than cold.
It is silence over clamor.
It is within a forest or a bamboo grove—where the wind rustles and birds call, and the insects are few.
It is a spring night before the days of hay fever. That one particular summer night. Ha Long Bay.
It is being enveloped in the scent of damp earth, fig leaves, jasmine, and coffee.
It is the stray paint cans caught in the corner of my eye, the graffitied concrete walls, and hidden back alleys.
It is the crackle of a vinyl record; the white noise of a rainy day heard from indoors.
What I list here are fragments of memories, places, and things that bring me peace—the elements that make my life happy.
They all truly exist, and to someone else, they might mean nothing at all.
But when I add a touch of "dreams" to them, they become my own personal Utopia.
A listless ghost drifting by, cat-eared mushrooms sprouting from the ground, or a vase that occasionally gives a wink…
In this way, my Utopia will surely continue to grow.
And I hope to keep inviting many people into this space.
Just as you have visited my Utopia today, in this very moment.
