Work Details

Concept and Intention of the Artwork

“The Black Goat Project” is a series work that crosses sculpture, flower art, AI, and images, and questions the value of artificial and institutionalized life in modern times from the perspective of “reproduction.” While superimposing the state of life, which has been disregarded and denied under anthropocentrism, with dystopian future images, he creates works mainly with expressions derived from plant shapes.

What You Want to Express Through the artwork

This work is “Madonna of the Pomegranate,” one of the works in this series. Inspired by Botticelli's “Our Lady of the Pomegranate,” the title was the same. Lilies (Maria) and pomegranate (breeding) are integrated, and originally it is a water fountain device where milky white liquid springs out of the lily core, and “motherhood and desire” is superimposed on top of each other.

Thoughts on the Artwork and Title

The name “Black Goat Project” is inspired by religion and mythology. In Cthulhu mythology, it is a symbol of fertility = reproduction, and in Greek mythology, there is an image of strong motherhood as a goat raised by Zeus. Meanwhile, in Western culture, it is spoken of as a symbol of marginalized existence or Satanic evil and rebellion, and it also harbors desires and sexual suggestions. Furthermore, there is also a context where goats were treated as objects of sexual comfort during wartime. ――I felt that it was a symbol with these conflicting meanings overlapping into one, so I chose this name.
