'Tronie' of a Man

ネットで自画像に関して調べているときに、Joos van Craesbeeckという17世紀のフランドルの画家が描いた「The Smoker」という作品を見つけた。決して美しいと言えない作品ではあるが、その生々しさや醜さの表現は卓越していた。そこでTronieという作品ジャンルに出会った。そのジャンルは画家が人の顔や表情を研究したりするポートレイト形式のもので、特定の人物を扱わないことが特徴である。
また誇張されたような顔の表現をしているものが多く、変顔をしていたりするものも多くある。私はこの時自分のやっていることを昔の人がすでにやっていたことに驚いた。またこのジャンルの繋がりで下級市民の風俗画や教訓画など人の醜さを全面に出した作品に興味を持った。なぜ私たちは綺麗なものを描かずにわざわざ見たくもない醜いものを描くのか。そしてなぜそれを人々は受け入れたのか。そこに自分が醜さを求める理由もあるのかもしれない。

執行 浩暉 画家 2001年佐賀県に生まれ、2026年佐賀県在住。
2020年に広島市立大学芸術学部美術学科油彩専攻に入学、2024年卒業。
主に油彩を用いた絵画を制作しており、最近は主に自画像制作を軸としながら絵画や社会における人間の醜い部分への捉え方について研究している。
