Work Details
They use trees that have fallen due to typhoons, wood products that have finished their role, and even trees discarded due to knots, holes, and insect eating, etc., which are generally regarded as defects in wood. My work is based on the theme of carving out “tree spirits” and their “omokage(afterimage)” even though they have ended their role as wood products.

1982年生まれ。私は”おもかげ”をテーマに木彫制作をしている。 像シリーズにおいては様々な木を材料としており、台風で倒れた樹木や、伐採されたもの、あるいは廃棄される家具などである。さらには、木材として節や割れ、ヤニ、虫食いなどで廃棄されたものである。それら木材としては通常欠点とされる部位を個性と捉えなおし、活用している。 1982年生まれ 2008年武蔵野美術大学工芸工業デザイン学科木工専攻卒業 2010年東京藝術大学大学院美術研究科芸術学美術教育修了 西山は一貫して”おもかげ”をテーマに木彫制作をしている。現在の像シリーズにおいては様々な木を材料としている。台風で倒れた木や、廃棄される家具、または木材として割れ、節、ヤニ、虫食いなどがあり捨てられた木である。西山はそれら通常であれば欠点とされるものを個性と捉えなおし、活用している。
