Silence is not love
2025
116.7 × 91 cm (F50)
Acrylic, Oil Pastel on Canvas
This work reflects on the phrase “Silence is not love,”
and questions the fine line between kindness and withdrawal.
Silence can appear gentle, even caring —
but perhaps true connection exists only through the act of speaking,
through the courage to reach beyond stillness.
Love is not something hidden in quietness,
but something that lives in the attempt to be heard.
This work is a quiet acknowledgment of that fragile courage.

Artist
Contemporary Artist
MOMO was born in Kanagawa, Japan, in 1996. Taking the idea that “words cannot fully capture things” as her starting point, she creates paintings and installations that use words themselves as motifs. Her work explores fundamental themes such as love, solitude, desire, and loss, as well as the emotional depths hidden in everyday life. In 2026, she unveiled a large-scale work at the west exit of Shibuya Station. In recent years, she has been developing her “Room Series,” incorporating beds and lighting. She received the Ace Hotel Award at GEISAI #22 & Classic in 2023.
