“This painting looks at how framing changes the way we see. A window with blinds can frame the world outside, but here it is shut, hiding the view. Beside it, a small framed painting of a path takes its place, offering its own kind of opening.
I’m interested in how both the window and the picture frame can hold landscapes, one through direct experience, the other through representation. Placed together, they blur the line between looking out and looking at. The work asks what kind of view we trust more: the real one that is kept from us, or the imagined one that invites us in.”

Pope Bacay’s (b. 1994) paintings explore the idea of home through fragments of architecture and shifting landscapes. His works draw on the houses he has lived in and the places he has passed through, transforming windows, rooftops, tiles, and horizons into contemplative images. Sometimes precise, sometimes intuitive, these forms become vessels for memory and belonging, suggesting that place is less about geography than about sensation and recall.
