Work Details

Concept and Intention of the Artwork

"If a woman wants to write a novel, she must have money and a room of her own." In a sense, I am now the person these words aspire to be. I earn money from a five-day-a-week job, have a room of my own (and even a studio) where I can work freely, and I am able to create. I must first acknowledge the difference between the brutal discrimination that people who were labeled "woman" in Woolf's time faced and the situation today. But why do Woolf's words still resonate today? Perhaps it is because the roots of discrimination and the creative situation for women and minorities have not changed. Harassment is rampant, secondary victimization is plentiful, and perpetrators often continue their activities while ignoring those who speak out. I believe that neither art nor the nation can exist purely. Each of the works in this exhibition questions purity and myth.
