For me, “face” is the most straightforward, yet most complex and fundamental motif.

I continue to draw “faces” that are someone's face, are fragments of myself, and appear from the depths of my memory and then disappear again — I continue to draw “faces” that cannot take such a shape.

In this exhibition, we are quietly asking “what is peace”, centering on the “FACE” series.

Facing face to face in a world full of strife and division is an act of deeply facing others and self. I believe that the power to resist violence resides only in the resonance born from the intersection of gaze.

At the core of my production is the concept of “ZOOM.”

It is an active process of reconstructing fragmented memories, emotions, and relationships from one's own perspective, rather than simply expanding and shrinking perspectives. Things that seem abstract from a distance take on concreteness as you get closer. By changing the point of view, the air and even the time in the picture are transformed, and the aim is to be a device that re-questions “what is to see” themselves.

This time, I'm drawing the closest people to me — my daughter and wife.

I expressed my belief in the future and quiet prayers through the faces of my loved ones.

Colors clash, shapes overlap, and order and chaos collide on the canvas.

It's my inner world, and it's also the state of the world itself right now.

And now, a verse from a song resonates strongly in my heart.

When I was sending my daughter to daycare, it suddenly came from the TV in my car.

At first glance, these words seem obvious, but in fact, they may be very difficult.

There are many places in the world where it is difficult to “be yourself,” even though this feeling comes naturally to us Japanese people.

That's why I want to cherish the “spirit of not taking things for granted.”

I hope that this exhibition of facing “faces” will help to deepen one's perspective on others and self, and that it will be a quiet prayer for “living” itself.
