Concept and Intention of the Artwork

I first came into contact with monotyping techniques through university classes. I was attracted to expressions that combine the fun texture of prints with the characteristics of lightness in drawing.

You don't know what kind of screen it looks like until you flip through the edition. That unpredictability, the feeling of being drawn by something rather than one's own, was difficult to control, yet fresh and fun. Being out of control itself was an interesting and exciting experience.

Although it is a work I made myself, half of it is drawn on something else. Maybe my works are often like that. It had already left my hands when I put it on display, and although I was lonely, I felt very fulfilled.

Of course, there are many ways to develop and other methods, but I am proud that I was able to present this work with confidence as a graduation work.

After working on my graduation project, I feel like I've finally grasped the starting point of something to create.

Exhibition View
What You Want to Express Through the artwork

About two or three years before I started working on this work, I was working on abstract paintings based on sunlight filtering through the trees. I was simply drawn to the beauty of shadows falling to the ground, the complexity of shapes and changes in contrast. However, I began to feel limited in drawing the ambiguity of nature, which inevitably changes moment by moment, with handwriting with my own intentions. From that time on, I think my theme was how to incorporate chance into my work. I wonder what expressions only I can do. I always thought about that in one corner of my head and created it.

Production Methods and Tools

Using monotype techniques, multiple panels are combined to create a single screen. I use brushes, panels, acrylic plates, rollers, acrylic paints, etc.

Production Time

It's been about a month and a half.

Production Location

I was making it in my studio at Kyoto City University of the Arts. I'm currently making it at my home in Kobe.

Thoughts on the Artwork and Title

About two or three years before I started working on this work, I was working on abstract paintings based on sunlight filtering through the trees. I was simply drawn to the beauty of shadows falling to the ground, the complexity of shapes and changes in contrast. However, I began to feel limited in drawing the ambiguity of nature, which inevitably changes moment by moment, with handwriting with my own intentions. From that time on, I think my theme was how to incorporate chance into my work. I wonder what expressions only I can do. I thought about that kind of thing in one corner of my head for a long time, and what I arrived at was a technique of combining multiple panels made with monotypes. While changing heaven and earth over and over, they make use of handwriting created by chance. The situation at the time of production was compared to “flowing earth.”
