Work Details

oil paint, linen, panel

Interested in creating new trends and original aesthetics by merging the different styles and cultures characteristic to Japanese fashion, Shirai creates paintings like making patchworks with traditional Japanese patterns and her own original patterns. She strives to express an expansion of continuous patterns, impressions and symbols, that transcends time and space.

Testimonial

Shirai’s themes are continuity, halation, transformation and space. These elements all symbolise a deep insight towards this world that indicates change and development. The never-ending continuous patterns represent the eternity of time and space; her works have a profound philosophical question internalised within them. Shirai explores the aesthetics of universality and repetition, offering a deep insight to viewers.
