マリア・デウマ・デ・メロは1967年、ゴイアス州ピレノポリス市に生まれた。 故郷の伝統祭り「カヴァリャーダ」（中世ヨーロッパの馬上槍試合と、キリスト教徒とムーア人の戦いを再現したポルトガル由来の祭り）で多くの登場人物が被る仮面は彼女の作品。仮面制作は他の人の仕事を観察して学んだ。友達と一緒にお祭りで遊ぶため、13歳の時から仮面作りを始めた。才能が知られて有名になり、観光客向けに制作し始めた。作品は伝統的テーマに沿い、牛や猿、ジャガーなどの動物を擬人化した造形や獣形神を生み出している。ブラジル最大のカヴァリャーダであるピレノポリスの祭りを大いに盛り上げる作家である。

Biography
Maria Delma de Melo was born in 1967, in Pirenópolis, Goiás. Her masks are used by many characters at the Cavalhada party in her hometown. She learned this craft by observing those who came before her. She started to create her own masks at the age of 13, as a way to play around at a party with her friends. She became famous for her talent and started producing masks for tourists. Her creations follow traditional subjects, as she invents animals and anthropomorphic and zoomorphic animals, with creatures such as the ox, the monkey and the jaguar. He is a great supporter of the largest Horse Riding Parade in Brazil - the Pirinópolis Cavalhada.
Maria Delma de Melo nasceu em 1967, em Pirenópolis, Goiás. São suas as máscaras utilizadas por muitos personagens na festa da Cavalhada de sua cidade natal. A aprendizagem da manufatura desse artefato se deu a partir da observação do trabalho de outros. Passou a criar suas próprias máscaras a partir dos 13 anos para brincar na festa com amigos. Seu talento a tornou conhecida e passou a produzir para os turistas. Suas criações obedecem às temáticas tradicionais, inventando animais e bichos antropomorfos e zoomorfos, nelas aparecem animais como o boi, o macaco e a onça. É grande incentivadora da principal Cavalhada do Brasil: a Cavalhada de Pirinópolis.
