I Paint My Room Green:

In addition to the video installation, this work is composed of 5 acrylic paintings that are loosely related. These paintings explore themes such as loneliness, connection, and the flow of time in a different medium. The content of the painting is drawn directly from the experience of a person living alone in Taiwan in a residence in Taiwan in 2023. I'm interpreting their experiences and feelings in a visual form. Together, these paintings and videos invite viewers into a narrative experience that deeply explores relationships and ways to relate to objects.

We humans have repeated diverse and rich experiences in our relationships with objects, which form connections that go beyond mere physical existence. We are involved with a myriad of things throughout our lives, and each serves a purpose, satisfies a need, and sometimes has emotional value. These objects walk with our experiences and become silent witnesses to feelings and the stories we live. Over time, many of these objects are left behind, thrown away, or forgotten, but the relationships and memories associated with them remain in our consciousness and continue to shape our identities and experiences.

Each painting work is a deep story told from personal interviews, about the lives and feelings experienced by people who are memory owners. By interacting with these individuals and listening to their stories, I am trying to uncover how their lives are intertwined with important things through my own filter.

I paint my room green：部屋を緑に塗る

One woman says she always paints her room green. It has a special dark green color. I asked her why, but she said she hadn't given any particular thought. After thinking about it for a while, I answered, “Because it naturally reminds me of my childhood.” She says that when she lived with her parents, the area around the house was rich in greenery, and the trees, flowers, and green things she drew still remain on the walls of the house.
After this interview, I walked around the village and found a place with a jungle vibe. I initially planned to use green and orange outlines for my paintings, but eventually I ended up using other colors, which was a natural move. And what I noticed was that the color I used was similar to the color of the plastic bag I take everywhere. This painting became the starting point for this collection, and it was a mixture of others' stories and mine.
