Wayan Sudarsana’s practice is shaped by an exploration of imagination, form, space, and the unseen. His abstract compositions are not anchored in the appearance of objects from everyday life; rather, they emerge as flows of colour in shifting gradations. These movements of pigment resemble a parable, evoking the turbulence of human thought and the unresolved currents of feeling.
His dedication to abstraction has brought him notable recognition. Sudarsana was a finalist in the Emerging Artist category of the UOB Painting of the Year in both 2015 and 2017. He was also awarded Best Work in Bloom in Diversity at Bale Banjar Sangkring, Yogyakarta (2017), and selected among the Ten Best Works in the Basoeki Abdullah Art Award #2, Jakarta (2016). His works have appeared in exhibitions such as "Aksi Artsy" at the R.J. Katamsi Gallery, Institut Seni Indonesia, Yogyakarta (2017), and "N(art)ure", a mural competition and exhibition at Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta (2017).
Sudarsana’s solo exhibitions include "Transfiguration" at Selojene Pop Up, Yogyakarta (2022), and his thesis exhibition "Binatang Sebagai Inspirasi dalam Lukisan" at Galeri R.J. Katamsi, Institut Seni Indonesia, Yogyakarta (2018). His collaborative endeavours include group shows such as Remix with members of Sanggar Dewata Indonesia Yogyakarta at ITS Ready Space, Yogyakarta (2024), and Rethinking Diaspora Kala Patra of SDI at Sangkring Art Space, Yogyakarta (2022).
