"The Inner and Outer Zones"
The Japanese archipelago is divided by the Median Tectonic Line, which extends from central Nagano Prefecture to western Ehime Prefecture, separating the Inner Zone on the Sea of Japan side from the Outer Zone on the Pacific side. Rocks and strata of different properties and ages lie alongside one another across this boundary.
Since around 2024, I have been photographing sites where faults are exposed and collecting rocks from these locations. Through the spaces between surfaces, I seek to observe flows of time and geological processes that cannot be fully grasped at a human scale, turning my attention toward the forces and movements that operate on an Earth-wide scale.
