Born in Gunma, 1980. Lives and works in Kanagawa. Takayama earned his Master of Arts in Sculpture at the graduate school of Tama Art University in 2007. Utilizing wood as his fundamental material for the artworks, his practice and artistic examination continues to develop and spread across the open studio recently took place at Fuchu Art Museum in 2015, and the Susaki artist-in-residency program in 2019. Based upon the long-established techniques in the traditional wooden sculpture, he constantly pursuits the concept of sculpture to update in the contemporary history with his textured woodcut, relief, and carefully installed pedestals to correspond in the presentation. Most of the subjects in his creation are emerged out of the depiction of his daily life and persons to encounter, and featured series of the head statue counts over sixty today. With a relic of the dynamic action sculpted by a chainsaw and the liquid to apply in the process, his artwork reserves an accumulation of various memories, time, and ethos when he confronts with the materials. His solo exhibitions include “Unknown Sculpture Series No.7” (gallery 21 yo-j, 2017), and “Nakaniwa” (CAPSULE, 2016), among other group exhibitions such as “Encounter – Infinite Variety of Faces” (Marugame Genichiro-Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art, 2021), “Eri Takayanagi x Yosuke Takayama x Masaya Chiba” (Tama Art University Art-Theque Gallery, 2017), “COLLECTION+ The act leaves a trace” (ARTS MAEBASHI, 2016), and “Imprisoned, Jailbreak, Imprisoned, Jailbreak” (Komagome SOKO, 2016).
