Maxine is the daughter of the publishers of Teenage Riot. I met her at the New York Art Book Fair a couple of years ago, when she was there helping her parents. She was wearing big fake eyelashes. I visited the family in Canada and spent some time with Maxine. It was then I began to photograph her. She was obsessed with the selfie, admired Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton as her fashion icons. She'd be watching Victoria's Secret fashion shows while her dad was showing me amazing art book collections. I went back the next year and photographed her again. By then she’d transformed again. It was fascinating.One of my favourite pictures of her is this one. I shot it when she was 16. She loved wearing this Juicy Couture pink tracksuit and carrying a Gucci bag. She also had a Fendi. I loved her style. The town she grew up in and was living in back then was very small with no stores around, so she only had information of the world via her iPhone and built her style from there. I thought it was funny that she dressed up in her favourite outfit and walked her dog around her house.
マキシーンは私の２冊目の写真集Teenage Riotの出版社の娘で、私は数年前にニューヨークブックフェアで両親の手伝いをしていた際に出会いました。彼女はその時に長いつけまつげをつけており、私は彼女の秘めた魅力にとても興味をそそられました。その翌年の秋に彼女の写真が撮りたくカナダを訪れ共に時間を過ごしました。彼女はセルフィー（自撮り）が大好きで、キムカーダシアンとパリスヒルトンをファッションアイコンとして尊敬していました。ある晩、私は彼女のお父さんに素晴らしいアートブックコレクションを見せてもらっていたのですが、その時にマキシーンはヴィクトリアズシークレットのファッションショーをテレビで見ていまいました。１年後、再びマキシーンを訪ね、写真を撮り続けましたが、彼女は１年でだいぶ変わっていました。私はその光景がすごく魅惑的でした。この写真は初めて彼女を訪れた際に撮った大好きな１枚です。これは彼女が１６歳の時に撮りました。彼女はジューシークチュールのピンクのジャージを着ることとグッチのかばんを持つことが好きでした。私は彼女のスタイルがとても好きでした。彼女が生まれ育ち当時住んでいた町はとても小さく、お店があまりなく学校もバスで通学していたため、彼女は自分のスタイルや世界観を彼女のiPhoneから確立していきました。彼女はそれらのお気に入りの服を着て、犬の散歩をするのですが、私はそれがとても面白く可愛く感じました。

In 2003 she started working as a freelance photographer and today she divides her time between commercial and creative pursuits. 愛知県名古屋市出身。２００２年にニューヨークへ渡る。２００３年からフリーランスで活動し、今日はニューヨークを拠点にコマーシャルとアートフォトグラフィー両方で活動している。 Born in Nagoya, Japan, Nagasaka moved to New York in 2002 to explore North American culture. In 2003 she started working as a freelance photographer for the Japanese cult magazine Street, and later traveled around Europe and US shooting documentary photographs. She is renowned for her honest and sensitive imagery, celebrated for her ability to capture the essence of a person who is in front of her lens. Her images are powerful and full of emotion. She has been photographing youth culture in its myriad forms for more than a decade. Known for her street casting, Fumi’s photography balances the line between street, subculture and the artifice of fashion. Today she divides her time between commercial and creative pursuits. Her photographs have appeared in magazines and fashion brand such as Louis Vuitton, Dior, Dazed&Confused, AnOther, Vogue, NY Times T and others. In 2016 she has published her first book Untitled Youth by Kahl Editions, and launched her 2nd book Teenage Riot by Bywater Bros Editions in 2018. 愛知県名古屋市出身。２００２年にニューヨークへ渡る。２００３年から日本のカルチャー雑誌STREETで写真を撮り始め、２００７年からDazed&Confusedをはじめとする海外雑誌のエディトリアル、アメリカとヨーロッパを中心にドキュメンタリー作品を撮り始める。彼女の作品は正直、繊細で、カメラの前の被写体をありのままに映し出し、パワフルで感情的である。１０年以上様々な形でユースカルチャーを撮り続け、ストリートキャスティングも大切な要素であり、ストリート、サブカルチャー、そしてファッションの間での作品を撮 り続けている。 今日はニューヨークを拠点にコマーシャルとアートフォトグラフィー両方で活動している。 主なクライアントは、ルイヴィトン、ディオール、Dazed&Confused、AnOther、Vogue, NY Times Tなど。 ２０１６年に１冊目の写真集Untitled YouthをKahl Editionsから出版し、２０１８年には２冊目Teenage RiotをBywater Bros Editionsから出版。
