Minami Okumura
Artist
Born in Shizuoka Prefecture in 1999. Completed the Master’s program in Oil Painting at the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts. Currently enrolled in the doctoral program at the same university. Her practice centers on painting and installation. She collects handwriting—such as casual doodles or notes jotted in ledgers—that is strongly tied to individuals’ daily lives and appears as traces, calling them “Micro-letters.” By tracing these into her works, she creates pieces that reexamine the spatial structure of painting itself.
Major exhibitions include TOKAS Emerging 2025: “Peach, Q-ushu (Air Raid), 32850 Days” (Tokyo Arts and Space Hongo, 2025). She was a semifinalist for the 3rd BUG Art Award and received the 2024“Ueno Geiyū Prize” and the 2019 “Keiichirō Kume Scholarship.”
