ABANG

ABANG’s work begins with her personal desires and aspirations to explore artistic expressions of freedom and sensuality. A free life emerges by challenging existing conventions, posing the question, “Why is this taken for granted?” She seeks to assign new value and meaning to objects and roles that society views as given, aiming to convey a sense of the extraordinary. A “sensual life” stems from her urge to express her inner self unabashedly. Through vibrant colors, collages that deconstruct and reassemble traces of failure and incompletion, and projects reinterpreting broken plaster statues, she conveys messages such as, “Wholeness is not the only thing of value” and “Nothing should be taken for granted.” For ABANG, the creative process and the unexpected happenings that arise from transforming familiar objects are integral to her work. She invites viewers to experience familiar places and scenes in unfamiliar ways, prompting them to question the assumed normalcy of everything around them.
