Painter CBA
Born in 1965 in Osaka, graduated from Tokyo Design Academy. Over 20 years of graphic designer experience in bookbinding, magazines, advertisements, etc. Currently working as a painter based in Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture.
Using collage, painting, drawing, and video production as the main means of expression, he is currently pursuing abstract expression on the theme of “order in chaos.”
In parallel with his activities as a painter, he also has extensive experience as a session bassist. Participated in live performances and recordings with bands such as CICADA, Surfers of Romantica, and ZERO. He is also involved in recording the soundtrack for the movie “Tokyo Zombie” (starring Asano Tadanobu). As a member of the a cappella polyrhythm unit “Zvizba”, he performed at the Bologna Music Festival in Italy. He also experienced the international stage in his musical activities.
After working as a graphic designer for over 20 years based in Setagaya, Tokyo, the CBA stepped into a new artistic path, the world of painting, on the recommendation of a friend in the fall of 2010.
Bauhaus's designs, which touched upon his time as a graphic designer, are the origin of his deep interest in compositional science. Through that experience, I deeply sympathized with Wassily Kandinsky's “composition” theory, and developed a strong interest in composition in painting. He also deepened his studies on theories such as Armin Hoffman's “Graphic Design Manual” and Josef Mueller-Brockmann's “Grid System,” and laid the foundation for subsequent painting production.
My start as a painter was collage, and I received a great deal of inspiration from the works of Dada artist Kurt Schwitters. This method of reconstructing existing materials and creating new meaning and beauty is strongly reflected in his early works.
In 2017, he received the Contemporary Award at the prestigious EWAAC Art Award London, and his talent was recognized internationally. This award was an important turning point in his career as an artist.
In 2020, the CBA moved its production base to Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, and continues to the present. This transfer probably brought new perspectives and inspiration to his creative activities.
CBA's works, which combine compositional power cultivated through graphic design with unique perspectives derived from collages, have a unique presence in the contemporary art scene. Further success is expected in the future.
