Mermaids are located on the boundary separating us from the realm of the gods. When we face “Heavenly Ocean,” a mermaid appears as a “boundary” separating the “fairy world” from this side.
Also, the “Sea King” depicted on the left has the appearance of a child, but the child are in the realm of “gods” farther from the human world. Jung called an intelligent person who can have the form of a child “old wise man,” and it is probably close to that. Also, this child is our ancestor, and it may be an image of the author's grandfather.
