Butterflies Dream of Human - Bitten Apple

Yudai Nakaya's practice begins with a sense of dissonance — the moment he encounters an event, whether one that society calls a problem or a phenomenon not yet named.

Rather than treating this first impression as a conclusion, Nakaya re-describes the same event from the points of view of humans, society, animals, plants, time, and machines, turning the gaps between these accounts into works. Each project is numbered as a "Case": a gathering of multiple accounts of a single event. A Case is never closed — new accounts from new points of view may be added over time.

The works make visible how naming, classification, and institutions assign different meanings and values to the same being. Standing among the accounts, viewers are asked not which one to believe, but from which point of view they have been seeing the world.

As long as events occur in the world, the Cases will continue to grow.
